As a single mom, I’m obviously already busy. With 3 young kids, 2 that stay at home, I’m running around non-stop. On top of this, I work part-time online and I started going back to school full-time. So, more often than not, the house is a mess, the kids are annoyed, and I have 2 papers due and 3 hours of work to do. The positive thing about all of this is most of my work and all of my school takes place online. I’m naturally a night owl and could happily spend hours each night getting everything done. Except that my youngest cosleeps. And she will not go to sleep without me. She often wakes if I’m not there as well. I have a laptop, but the only light on it is the screen. And it’s not bright enough to fully light the keyboard. I have a spare keyboard that does light up but it’s awkward to position it and the laptop while I’m in bed. So I was so excited to get the BenQ ScreenBar Lite.
So Simple
The lamp itself is super simple. Just clip it to the top of your laptop screen and plug in the USB to power it. These days most laptops only have a couple of USB ports, but if I’m working in bed or on the go, I rarely have any other accessories to plug in. I do have a USB hub just in case. This lamp will clip to any screen 0.1″-0.3″ thick. The buttons across the top are simply touch activated. Hit the power button and the Auto-Dimmer and you’re ready to go. What’s awesome is BenQ has a simple lightweight app you can install on your laptop that can control the lamp and its settings. Simply download the appropriate app for Windows or MacOS and you no longer need to mess with any buttons on the lamp itself. This is incredibly handy when I’m working at night in bed in the dark bedroom.
Saving Your Sight
The ScreenBar Lite has an auto-dimmer built in so the brightness of the lamp can adjust to the ideal brightness considering the ambient light around you. Having the brightness set to the ideal setting can actually reduce eye strain and fatigue. And how many times did our parents tell us growing up to never look at a bright screen in the dark? Now I know that my eyes will not be harmed working in the dark at night. You can also adjust the temperature of the light. Cooler (bluer) light is more energizing, better lets you concentrate, and boosts efficiency. Warmer (yellower) colors are more relaxing and help replenish your energy. All 8 temperature settings on the lamp are ANSI White Color Standard compliant.
Nothing in the Way
The problem with traditional lights is that the glare they cause making seeing and reading anything on a screen tough. Then you’re left constantly readjusting the lamp as needed, and I need as few interruptions as possible when working. My time is precious! With Precision Workspace Illumination, this lamp casts no glare at all. The lights are angled just so they case a wide area of light for your space without bouncing off the screen directly. Physically the lamp rotates on its clip so you can angle is exactly as your workspace needs. In bed, I want a much more narrow spot of illumination to not disturb my youngest sleeping. If I’m working at a table, however, I need a wider area. No problem with this simple lamp. Plus it only uses 5W with its LED lights so it’s almost no drain on your laptop battery.
Anytime and Anywhere
I love that the lamp comes with its own carrying case. It’s solid and sturdy, with the lamp sitting in dense foam. The lamp almost floats within the narrow box. I can pop it in my bag and feel confident that is won’t break. The simplicity means I can set it up in mere seconds and the light allows me to complete my work or school assignments no matter when and where I am. Time management plays a key role when you’re this busy, so it is so very nice that there is no muss or fuss with this lamp. And once I find my ideal settings, I can hit the favorite button on the top, or within the app and save those setting for when I work in the same environment the next time. A really handy light, quite a versatile helper to keep things lit wherever
That’s such a great idea! I often work on my laptop in the dark but this would be a nice work light that’s not too bright. I like that it doesn’t cause any glare too.

I love the convenience of this. There are times I need to get something done before going to bed. I don’t want to get up, find a light source and work there. I want to simply stay in bed and work really quick.

I have wanted one of these for years, I work late at night in bed with a small light so I don’t wake my husband.
I really like the space saving feature and the fact that it sits on top of the screen. Better for my eyes and less clutter on the desk.
Honestly I had never even thought of trying something like this but I really like the idea when I’m on my laptop late at night I could move to the couch and use this light to help me with my typing.

I think this would be very helpful…especially in the evenings after I’ve put the shades down. It gets quite dark & shadowy in my computer area.
I think this would be perfect for my husband. A whole lot of his work is done on the computer and cover both the east and west coast so he is working all different times of the day. Though his area is lit his keyboard is not. We have tried several different desk lams but he has not been happy with any of them so far.
I’ve noticed as I get older I require more/better lighting to see smaller text on my computer. I love this idea! I’m so looking forward to giving this product a try.

I could really relate to your descriptions of working on a computer in less than ideal conditions. For several months now I’ve been limited in terms of technology, and I frequently have to work on a very small screen.
I, too, work just about “anytime and anywhere”— even in the middle of the night! I’ve tried hanging fairy lights behind me, as well as tilting the screen away from me. But I still get an uneasy feeling, that I’m doing damage to my eyes. The screen is difficult to read, its glow makes it harder to make out my surroundings, and so on. This product looks like a lifesaver! I love that you are able to save your settings, so that you’re able to go right to them when you’re next in those same conditions. I would love to have a product such as this. Thank you for the review!

I love it, it is very convenient if you don’t have a light and want to be able to see the keyboard at night.
My laptop does not have a lighted keyboard so I have to have lights on at night to do my work. The lights being on bothers hubby when he is relaxing and watching TV. This would really help me out!

This would be great to have especially when working in the den area of my home. The only light is in the ceiling and it can get very dark at night.
