Tips for Finding the Perfect Nursing Bra
If you are a nursing and/or pumping momma you know the struggle. While I am toward the end of my nursing and pumping journey as a mother, I have finally found the holy grail of nursing bras. The perfect nursing bra. And I learned a lot along the way. So here are some tips on finding the perfect nursing bra.

Let’s Face it, Regular Bras are Not for Nursing or Pumping
At the height of my breastfeeding journey, I had decided to use my regular bras and just pull them aside to nurse or pump. They were so much more comfortable! And while it wasn’t always necessary, I could wear my pretty or cute ones if I so chose. After many many years of breastfeeding, however, I learned that my regular bras are all stretched out now and pretty much unwearable.
When it comes to things like underwires, padding, and improper support can all interfere with a mother’s nursing process. So it is important to get an actual nursing bra. Whether it’s a sleep bra comfy enough for dozing at night, or a fully supportive day bra, finding a nursing bra that works for you is possible.
The Perfect Nursing Bra is Comfortable
This was one of my chief problems with the nursing bras I tried. Yes, they worked great, were easy to unlatch for nursing or pumping access, but I HATED wearing them. They dug in, fit improperly, and had no support. Then I got this all-in-one nursing bra from Simple Wishes. I was worried the latch system would dig into the front of my shoulders because it is bigger, but it doesn’t. I can wear this bra all day and have zero complaints. I’m in no hurry to take it off at the end of the day.
Get the Correct Fit
I have been nursing long enough that I know my bra size. It’s not going to change any time soon with engorgement or running dry. If you want a great fitting nursing bra (which is KEY for comfort and support) while you’re still pregnant, get professionally measured around your 8th month of pregnancy. This will approximately be your size once your body has figured out how much milk to make consistently. OR wait until after giving birth and all the craziness of engorgement and being drained completely dry has passed.
And get a measurement that is your band and cup size, just like a regular bra. Too many nursing bras I found only came in generic S, M, L, XL sizes. This leads to poor fit and support. You’ll never be happy, I wasn’t. Simple Wishes makes sure you get the exact fit you need. You can follow their Fit Measurement video online, or run to any store that does fittings and get measured. It’s worth the time it takes.
Make Sure it Has Proper Support
If you jump cup sizes as I did once I started nursing my babies, you know that you feel it. My back would ache, I needed sleep bras or my chest would ache. Ugh. Having a wide band is critical. This Supermom Bra from Simple Wishes has 4 hook and eye closures in 6 rows. This allows for proper support with two inches of adaptation so help accommodate all those changed during pregnancy and after. The band should support 80% plus of all the weight.
I found, all too often, that the straps on most nursing bras were too thin or insanely wide. So I either had no extra support or I couldn’t wear anything that had a wide neck, straps, or remotely lower cut without the huge straps showing. I’ll admit, even with regular bras I always loved the idea of convertible straps, but usually found them uncomfortable. So far, the straps on this perfect nursing bra are wonderful. Convertible for regular, tanks, racerback, and halter and extra support strap for pumping are all available.
Ease of Use
What point is there using a nursing bra if you are constantly struggling to undo the nursing panel? Or reattach it after finishing? Or having to use a separate bra or strap to pump hands-free? The Supermom Bra does it all. It has a built-in pumping support panel, so you can pump hands-free any time you need to. Baby demanding an unscheduled feed? Simply unlatch the top latch to access the breast directly. Check out the video to see how easy it is.
Don’t Put Up with a Bra You Don’t Like
I was very guilty of this. After trying so many nursing bras within my budget, I gave up. I either put up with the uncomfortable one I had or I used and stretched out my regular bras. I’m here to say, “YOU DON’T HAVE TO!” It isn’t a necessity but what I love best about this nursing bra from Simple Wishes is the fact that it’s pretty and cute. AND has matching panties! And this Snow Leopard style is not their only cute style.
Lace, colors, neutrals, patterns; whatever your preference, there is an option. And I can personally say I feel much more confident when I’m wearing something I like to wear. And the Supermom bra checks all the boxes. It’s comfy, fits well, supports well, looks cute, and it NOT insanely expensive.
