Learning Through Play with Teach My

Now more than ever parents need all the tools they have at their disposal to not only keep their children entertained at home but to encourage and develop their learning skills. As parents we love to see our children playing, it’s a great opportunity to see how creative children can be while they put their imaginations to the test. It’s also an opportunity for them to explore the world around them while learning through play. learning through playDisclaimer: We were compensated for this post but as always all opinions are 100% our own.

Did you know that learning through play can help your young child develop an array of valuable skills? They can learn cognitive skills like math and problem-solving. How you might ask? Have your children ever pretended to be the chef or go grocery shopping with their own toy cart at home and groceries? Simple things like baking, “paying” for groceries and more can teach them math skills and more.

Play is far more powerful for children, however, than many parents realize. It’s actually the key to learning. Researchers and educators across the world have found that play can help enrich learning and develop key skills such as inquiry, expression, experimentation, and teamwork.1

Learning through play is far more powerful than parents might think, you don’t want to underestimate its value. The next time you’re tempted to pull your younger kids away from their playing to do homework you may want to consider that play helps children in a variety of ways. It can help reduce their stress as they’re enjoying themselves, using their imaginations and their imaginations are unlimited. A wonderful way to exercises their brain explores their creativity and they get to enjoy themselves which makes them less self-conscious and more open to learning (even if they don’t realize that they’re learning).

How Do Children Learn Through Play?

In her TedX Talk talk, Professor Doris Fromberg, Director of Early Childhood Teacher Education at Hofstra University, explains why play is such an important part of the learning process for children.

We need to consider that young children learn in quite different ways [than adults]. They learn by comparing physical experiences, by interactions with other people and their own feelings. And they learn an enormous amount through their imagination…. Play is what pulls together the logical and creative parts of the brain. 2

The best thing you could do for your baby, toddler, and/or preschooler is to nurture their creativity and encourage learning through play like the Teach My learning kits. Once they get started let their creativity and imaginations lead their playtime, the potential for them to learn is limitless. Let them choose the activities though as this will make them more inclined to want to do the activity.

Play provides the opportunity to learn essential social skills: to take turns, to share and to cooperate. Play helps children develop friendships with their peers good interpersonal skills are essential to children’s lifelong success. Play environments produce natural opportunities for children to learn self respect and how to treat others with respect. By allowing children to select their own learning activities, they become the leader of their own learning. 3

  2. I am all about kids learning while playing. Heck my great niece learns something new ever time she watches Mickey or Blue’s clues. All of the family make her learn with the simple things. STEM toys are toys but they are learning toys and we need kids to fall in love with STEM

I think playing and entertaining a child lets them learn with out realizing. My niece decided to not start her daughter in prek this year because of covid and because it would not be fun. She would have a teacher with a mask who could not touch or hug or………….. learning at home for now

  15. Right now my niece is remote learning with 2 of her children and still has a 2 year old that wants to learn like her big sister and big brother. This kit would be great for the 2 year old to learn from. My niece would appreciate the kit to show her how to teach her two year old 🙂
