Cool off with this tasty treat!

The hot summer weather is here and what better way to cool off then with a nice sorbet. It’s easy to make and you can change up the flavors as often you want. Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries or skip the berries and do mango, banana, orange, lime or whatever fruit catches your fancy! I just happen to like berries so for this one we blended some mixed berries in our Oster Versa Performance Blender.

Berry Sorbet

So who is ready to cool off with this yummy Mixed Berry Sorbet?

Yield: 4 Scoops

Berry Sorbet Recipe

Berry Sorbet Recipe
Prep Time 15 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups of Mixed Berries
  • 1 Cup of Water
  • 3/4 - 1 Cup Sugar

Instructions

  1. Bring the water and sugar just under boiling over medium high heat. The sugar should fully dissolve and the mixture should be clear (you just made Simple Sugar!)
  2. Add the mixed berries and simple syrup to a food processor or blender. Pulse until fully combined and the berries have broken down to liquid form (the seeds will still be intact for the most part).
  3. Transfer the mixture to a plastic container with a wide base (such as these Glade Entree Containers). This will ensure the mixture freezes quickly and allows room to “scoop” the mixture with ease when you’re ready to eat.
  4. If you don’t want the seeds in the final product, run the berry and sugar mixture through a sieve.
  5. Place the lid on the container and freeze overnight.
  6. The berry sorbet will keep for 5-7 days, without freezer burn, if stored properly.
  7. NOTES - Normal Simple Sugar is a ratio of 1 to 1, however the berries have natural sugars so I recommend cutting it back to 3/4 cup.

I love all the different possibilities when it comes to something so easy as sorbet. We could have this almost every day during the hot summer months! I better go and get some more containers for all the sorbets we’re planning LOL.

  1. Wondering if I could use a sweetener like stevia or maple syrup instead. They are more nutritious that sugar. Anyway, it looks delicious.

  2. Why do you need to add sugar?Would it not work with mashed, pureed fruit and water?I will try it that way and see.Thank you.

  3. I did this earlier with some frozen cherries I didn’t make my simple syrup as sweet either & I added a little bit of lemon juice. It was really refreshing & so easy. If you make extra simple syrup you can keep it in a glass jar in the refrigerator for the next batch.

  6. I never in a million years would have thought that making sorbet was so easy! I love to eat it in the summer, or whenever I’m hot. I have made simple syrup before and I agree with you that here the sugar could be cut back son. Thanks for the great recipe.

  16. Thanks so much for sharing your delicious recipe on Powered by Mom Shares a Berry Sorbet Recipe! This looks and sounds so good! I would most likely strain it before putting it into the container to get some of the seeds out! I saved this recipe and since I don’t have a food processor, I’d make it with my blender (even though it’s on it’s last leg!). Thanks again for sharing this wonderful recipe with all of us! I sure do appreciate it!! Thanks again! Michele 🙂
